Hedgehogs

Yes, we treat Hedgehogs!

(But sometimes it can be very tricky to examine them!)

African Hedgehogs are a fairly popular and unusual pet.  They are mostly nocturnal and have some unique behaviors. Hedgehogs often need to be seen for a variety of health problems including:

• Skin/Quill/Parasite problems
• Reproductive problems
• Cancer/Tumors
• Neurologic
• Eye problems

Did you know hedgehogs have a well developed sense of smell and hearing, but not vision?  They are able to recognize their owners and learn to accept handling.  When frightened or agitated, they make a hissing and grunting sound.  Hedgehogs will spread frothy saliva on themselves in a behavior called “self anointing”.
