Diagnostics

The Pet Doctor offers comprehensive diagnostic blood work testing in house, so results are available within minutes. This can be very valuable when time matters. Kidney enzymes, liver values, electrolytes, blood sugar values, anemia, platelet problems, and thyroid levels are some of the things that can be readily evaluated in your sick pet. Our practice also offer Heartworm tests and urinalysis in house, as well as most cytologies.
Radiography (x-ray) is also available and aids in diagnosing lung and heart disease, as well as evaluating liver, bladder, digestive system problems and broken bones. Our practice also offers dental x-rays to allow more thorough evaluation of hidden dental disease and abscessed teeth. And when needed, heart and abdominal ultrasounds can be performed by Dr. Julie Ekedahl, a board certified radiologist.
Did you know that pre-anesthetic blood work testing (which is run and evaluated immediately pre-op) can help to reduce the risk of anesthesia and surgery? Pre-anesthetic blood work helps identify underlying problems with kidney function, liver function or other abnormalities, in order to make anesthesia or surgery safer. These tests are run prior to any anesthesia or medication. There are three levels of blood work and, depending on the health or age of your pet, the appropriate one will be chosen. We will not proceed, before contacting you, if there are any significant abnormalities. It is typically not mandatory but we do strongly recommended it.
